Broadly concerned with South Asian diasporic sonics, this episode features a (masala) mix of projects coming out of fugitive radio HQ, Berlin. It opens with a mini-mix by DJ Idiyappam, featuring club sounds by diasporic producers connecting to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, it draws on trajectories of post-jungle and post-techno musics. DJ Idiyappam’s vibe mix curiously does not include State of Bengal, a recording and sound system project founded by the late British producer and educator of Bengali descent, Saifullah “Sam” Zaman (17 April 1965 – 19 May 2015), (pictured). So it is followed by a short montage of interviews with Sam Zaman and his collaborators about the enduring legacy of State of Bengal. This podcast is rounded off with an audio auto-portrait, initially made for the SAY_A_SOY radio series on ASSOY Radio by Berlin’s Soy Division.
